Cyber criminals using third parties to commit crime
Cyber criminals are reportedly using third parties to cause online threats and steal money, reports the Times of India.
The crooks are reportedly targeting job seekers with phishing scams, which they use to make individuals give up sensitive information under the pretext of being a prospective employer.
Once the details are obtained, the crooks then use the victim's account to transfer money illegally from other accounts leading the evidence trail to the victim.
Cyber Crime Cell superintendent of police B A Mahesh said: "They move with precision and before anyone realizes, they have made their money."
He revealed the money is then withdrawn within half an hour to two hours of the transfer leaving no clue about the hacker's identity.
The hackers are also hijacking email accounts through genuine looking emails that allow them access to the accounts, which are used to solicit for money from people in the address book.
A recent report from the British Computer Society revealed that cyber crime has developed to become more sophisticated akin to Mafia gangs.
