Cyber criminals to target 'social networks'
ID theft is set to become more prevalent on social networks in 2009, according to a new report.
The Aladdin Attack Intelligence Research Center (AIRC) Annual Threat Report predicts that businesses and professionals using social networks will be prime targets.
It suggests that ID theft will become easier through sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Bebo due the "sheer amount" of data available.
Ian Amit, director of security research at Aladdin, told IT Pro: "Enterprises should find solutions that are [work] with their environment to block certain processes.
"Some of the older social networks will need to look at their infrastructure side particularly to do with predicating and validating authentication methods."
A number of social network users were exposed to malware throughout 2008, according to the AIRC report.
Facebook members were exposed to a worm known as Koobface, which spread by creating spam messages, sent to friends of those with infected computers.
