Cyber attacks targeting the US will continue
Cybercriminals using denial of service attacks on American websites are unpreventable, it has been claimed.
According to Eugene Spafford, director of Purdue University's Centre for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security, denial of service attacks are easy to carry out and can cause a substantial amount of downtime in affected systems.
He told Fox News: "There is no way currently known that can prevent these kinds of things from occurring."
"These attacks rely on the poor protection and compromises of computer systems around the world," he added.
According Mr Spafford, millions of users are vulnerable to future botnet attacks, which link together infected computers and steal personal information from users.
Meanwhile, a study by the Institute for Public Policy Research has shown that both businesses and governments need to take the threat to internet security more seriously.
The organisation claimed that governments should spearhead the creation of a global security network.
