Crooks set to use social networks for attacks
Social networking sites Facebook and Twitter have been subjected to a series of internet security threats and phishing scams in the last few weeks, leaving online security professionals in company IT departments wary of the networks.
According to an internet security expert, it is just a matter of time before the networks, which have millions of users, are used as the base for launching attacks against businesses, reports eweek.com.
Rohyt Belani, the chief executive officer of Intrepidus Group, is quoted by the publication as stating that incidents involving rogue messaging from the sites are yet to be seen but it will not take long.
"I think the reason why it's not a popular way to deliver phishing attacks against companies is because companies are still figuring out if they are going to embrace social networking or shun it," he stated.
He went on to state that businesses are more concerned about directing their budgets towards monitoring their brand and trademarks and "they are wary to fully embrace social networking sites".
A phishing attack involving Twitter was reported last week on May 22nd.
