Consumers warned of phishing campaign
Internet users in the US have been warned not to fall for a persuasion scam currently doing the rounds on the internet.
According to The Morning Call, readers of We've Got Your Back, a column that gives warnings on frauds, have reported receiving correspondence from an organisation known as UBI Payment Services.
The column states that the organisation has been promising $5,000 ($2,900) to lucky winners but "as most people know - as everyone should know - there's no gold at their end of the rainbow".
Users are urged to enter their details on a 'claim form' before they can get their payment, but this may lead to an exposure to online threats and other internet security issues.
"Maybe they're setting you up for a phishing expedition, tapping into your internet accounts. Whatever they're doing, they're not planning to pay you $5,000", the column warns.
Internet users are advised not to reply to such messages and should delete them immediately to avoid the risk of ID theft or phishing scams.
