Consumers 'drive computer protection'
The uptake of consumer devices within business is leading to a need for greater computer protection across the board, it has been claimed.
Patrik Bihammar, senior analyst for security solutions and system management software at IDC Australia, explains that consumers are driving the spread of computer protection concerns.
"Traditionally, new technology adoption usually starts at the workplace, spreading across corporations before filtering out to consumers," he explains.
He adds: "Today consumer technology is fast outpacing enterprise computing, with popular consumer software and gadgetry creeping into the corporate world."
Computer protection is said by the firm to be becoming more important due to wider prevalence of Web 2.0 usage and the distribution of content via technologies such as RSS.
Mobile devices such as iPods, iPhones and Blackberries are presenting new challenges to the industry, the analyst adds.
In a related research report recently published by IDC Australia, Mr Bihammar asserted that "strong growth opportunities" exist due to the increasing interest in computer protection in the country.
