Consumers complacent over internet security
Internet shoppers are still relatively unconcerned about identity theft when using the web, a new report has revealed.
According to the global Unisys Security Index, financial fraud in general is one of the biggest concerns for consumers.
But for those who purchase items online or use internet banking, the figures show that there is an apparent lack of worry over personal details being stolen.
The data suggests that internet security in recent months has become less prominent when it comes to people's financial concerns.
It found that of all the countries studied only Germany revealed respondents that expressed high concern about computer viruses, spam and the security of online shopping.
Other countries claimed to have either low to moderate fears over online security.
"Internet security threats obviously still exist, so complacency about shopping and banking online and protection against computer viruses is an area we need to watch closely," said Tim Kelleher, vice president of enterprise security at Unisys.
"Companies and consumers alike need better security education so they can take the necessary steps to protect their data, particularly as the world becomes more reliant on the Web and other electronic channels."
Government ministers claim to have invested more than £29m into reducing online fraud.
