Congressional committee censures Chinese hackers
Chinese hackers are back in the limelight again after being accused of compromising the internet security of US computers and stealing sensitive data, reports the Guardian.
The latest accusation comes from a US Congressional panel, whose annual report of the US-China economic and security review commission says that government and US defence contractors are the main victims.
"China is stealing vast amounts of sensitive information from US computer networks," says Larry Wortzel, chairman of the commission set up by Congress in 2000 to investigate issues affecting the US and China.
The report also mentions China's military modernisation as well as its "impressive but disturbing" space and computer warfare capabilities.
Recommendations include upgrading of intelligence and homeland security systems protecting computer networks.
During the just concluded US presidential campaign, both Obama and McCain campaign networks were subjected to attacks, which were speculated to have originated from China.
The UK, Germany and France have also previously complained about Chinese hackers.
