Confusion over online security, report shows

A new study has found that people do not have a good understanding of online security.
Research by Oracle conducted by Foviance found that consumers have mixed attitudes to online security, having perceptions "press-led" and an ability to list threats such as malware, spyware and identity theft.
In total, 72 per cent of people said they had at least one security problem in the past three months.
However, 70 per cent of respondents blamed themselves for IT security problems, while 24.9 per cent pointed the finger at the website.
Some two-thirds of people said they would be more confident online if there were additional security measures imposed by websites.
Des Powley, director of security for Oracle UK and Ireland, said: "Done well security can be an enabler of online activity, whether that is retail e-commerce or engagement with public services."
A recent study by the Institute for Public Policy Research found that businesses and government must focus on the importance of network security.
