Conficker worm needs new security solution
An internet security firm has drawn attention to the online threat posed by computers infected by the conficker worm, saying the computers could lead to a rise in spam in the next quarter.
The potential online security problem left by the worm needs to be addressed by vendors, according to Amir Lev, the chief technology officer of Commtouch.
He said: "To block the flood of spam that the massive botnet created by the conficker worm is capable of sending, new spam detection methods beyond traditional content filtering must be employed.
"Detection based on analysis of patterns is the best tool to block massive spam attacks as these patterns will be created in seconds and the IP addresses of the infected computers will be tracked within minutes."
Conficker's variations have so far left an estimated 15 million computers around the world infected, according to online security researchers.
The worm grabbed global headlines as experts around the world waited for it to launch into attack on April 1st but the threat passed without major incidences.
