Conficker launch appears harmless
The much talked about online threats that had been projected to occur today (April 1st) as a result of the Conficker worm reactivating itself have so far failed to materialise, the latest reports show.
Internet security experts had predicted that the online security threat, which has hit millions of computers, would launch into attack today causing widespread chaos but so far, no reports of chaos have emerged.
Security experts were concerned that the worm could command compromised machines to start sending spam and other internet security threats, clogging networks.
However, its activation did not go without incident, according to reports in the Washington Post.
Technicians at a nuclear missile installation located near Elmendorf Air force Base raised fears of an infection, prompting the military facility to be put on a full-scale military alert.
Reports say the facility went to Defcon three briefly before being scaled down and the incident has been blamed on "way too much caffeine" by an insider.
