Computer virus infection affects three London hospitals
London hospitals have been put on the receiving end of cyber crooks following revelations that the Barts and The London computer system has had its internet security compromised by a computer virus.
The virus infection has affected computer operations at three major London hospitals - St Bartholomew's, the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel and The London Chest Hospital in Bethnal Green.
A statement on the Barts website said: "The Trust's well rehearsed emergency procedures have been activated to ensure that key clinical systems continue while network access is being established.
"Manual backup systems are in use and we are in the process of restoring the computer systems with priority being given to the most important areas for maintaining patients services."
The organisation revealed that operating theatres and outpatients services continued operating throughout the incident, "though some non essential activities have been scaled back".
The infection, which is said to have happened on Monday (November 17th), was by the Mytob worm.
