Computer users 'wasting time fixing machines'
For computer users at home or in the office it can sometimes seem as though as much time is spent fixing them as is spent working and playing on them, a publication has claimed.
American news website the Weekly warned that virus attack and other malware security threats can cause inconvenience and for larger businesses, can cost tens of thousands of dollars in lost productivity.
IT sector commentator Chip Reaves told the current affairs resource that issues relating to malware, identity theft and spyware are behind most of the times users cannot operate their machines.
The internet is filled with cybercriminals who seek access to computers for illicit reasons, he explained.
"If they get in - either directly, or with the help of exploits from malware or viruses - the list of problems they can cause is pretty big," Mr Reaves warned.
Academic Markus Hanhisalo of the University of Helsinki wrote a report on viruses in which he warned that even apparently benign malware will slow a computer by taking up processing time.
He stated that a lot of time and money is spent in both detecting and removing viruses from PCs.
