Chinese hackers target Oz premier
The online security threat posed by Chinese hackers has been highlighted by reports from Australia claiming that the country's premier has been subjected to a series of attacks.
According to the Australian, Chinese hackers directly targeted Kevin Rudd with attacks made on his government email as well as mobile phone communications.
The attacks happened during the prime minister's recent visit to China and the newspaper states that government officials in the delegation were forced to tighten their internet security measures.
Hackers have also spread their attempts to other governments' offices and businesses based in Australia, the newspaper quotes intelligence sources as stating.
Concerns over privacy and internet security have prompted the government to spend millions of dollars in a bid to tighten the protection of government information networks, the newspaper noted.
Several reports have emerged in recent months over the online threat posed by hackers to government networks with both the UK and US governments among those on the receiving end.
