Chinese given way round online censorship systems
As the Beijing Olympics gear for take off and journalists scratch their heads over internet restrictions in China, a foundation has urged individuals to take note of a free platform around the censorship.
People in China can now exploit the Global Internet Freedom Consortium's (GIFC) platform, which the organisation says grants access to any website, according to vnunet.com.
The platform, which is available free from the company's website, uses traffic encryption and IP address hiding to help users go round what has come to be known as the Great Firewall of China.
"Just as the Berlin Wall once fell when the East Germans came together and demanded their freedom, we too will give those living in closed societies the technology to take down the Great Firewall that separates them from the rest of the world," said the GIFC.
The organisation, which keeps a list of websites accessed through its platform says FTP downloads are possible and video sharing site, YouTube, search engine Google and online encyclopedia Wikipedia are among the most visited sites.
Meanwhile users have been warned to watch out for an increase in phishing scams related to the games.
