Check 'sluggish PCs' for ad & malware
When dealing with a slow PC, users should check their machines for adware and spyware, an expert has stated.
Ron Nutter, a Microsoft-certified systems engineer, made his comments through online resource Network World.
He made his suggestions in response to a user whose computer has slowed over the last few weeks and is now unable to browse the internet.
Mr Nutter suggested users experiencing the same problem check their computers to see if they are running any processes which they can't account for.
People who are still unable to discover the cause of their computer's sudden sluggishness should consider using a rootkit detector package, he urged.
A rootkit is malware which allows the attacker to fully control the system while concealing its presence.
"This type of detection helps give you another set of eyes to make sure that something isn't slithering under a rock and hiding without your knowing about it," he explained.
