Legitimate websites with high traffic are being used by cyber crooks to expose users to online threats by exploiting their purported security reputations, it has emerged.
According to Finjan, government and commercial websites are all being targeted and famous radio and television network, CBS is the latest casualty of this internet security phenomenon.
CBS' website has been compromised by cyber crooks who have laid a trap in its pages to expose unsuspecting users to online threats, warned the online security firm.
"The cybercriminals added a malicious obfuscated script to the infected page. The injected script injects a malicious IFrame to the page," the internet security organisation states on its website.
"The injected IFrame automatically loads another malicious script from a remote server controlled by criminals in Russia, causing a possible installation of malware on the unsuspecting client machine."
Such cases of legitimate websites being targeted due to their perceived safety are not new and UK websites have been targeted too before.
