Businesses should plan for 'worst case scenario' with mobile data

Business leaders need to focus their attention more on making 'mobile' data as secure as possible, one expert has revealed.

Over recent months, a significant number of employers have embraced flexible working, allowing their staff to carry out their jobs at home or on the go.

And while this has been held up as an ideal means of improving an employee's work-life balance, by carrying sensitive information out of the office on devices such as BlackBerrys or laptops, workers could be placing their companies at serious risk of falling victim to data crime.

Writing for Silicon.com, security expert Anthony Plewes argued that the need to step up security around mobile data is more important than ever, with the theft or loss of mobile devices now the third most common cause of data breach in the UK.

"The bottom line is that companies should look to protect their data, and assume it is always being used in the worse-case environment of travelling over the internet," he concluded.

At the same time, pizza takeaway chain Domino's has revealed that it is looking into rolling out encrypted data sticks in a bid to give its late-night employees greater flexibility.
