BT set to roll out tests of controversial new web browser
The system, developed by Phorm and entitled Webwise, will allow for adverts to be adjusted according to a users likes and interests.
From today, users of BT Internet will be invited to opt-in to a trial of the new technology.
According to the BBC, a spokesman said: "If it goes according to plan it's our expectation that we will roll it out across the entire broadband customer base."
He added that it was hoped that around 10,000 BT customers would take part in the trial.
BT drew criticism after it ran a trial of the technology without asking the permission of users first, and further trials have been consistently put back.
