Britons 'concerned over online privacy'
British consumers enjoy new technology but have concerns about their online privacy, a new report has revealed.
A study conducted by the Ofcom Consumer Panel has found that many people do not believe their personal data will be protected while they browse the web.
In fact, British consumers have very little knowledge about what rules have been made in order to protect their sensitive information online.
Anna Bradley, consumer panel chair, said although the web provides important benefits to Britons and is valued, it concerns many of them.
"We need to help consumers understand about the existing protections, make the residual risks clear to them and help them to make their own electronic environment safer," she added.
The panel was created to address consumer concerns within the electronic communications sector.
Last year, research conducted by the Ofcom Consumer Panel found that youngsters being raised in homes without internet access can find themselves at a social disadvantage.
