Botnets 'online threat of 2008'
The main computer security threats facing India in 2008 are likely to include bots and botnets, a news resource has warned.
A botnet is a network of infected computers - or bots - used by the infector for criminal activities such as spamming and sending or installing malware.
India's Economic Times asserted that online threats grew at an "extraordinary rate" during 2007 and the next 12 months will see a further increase in the amount of spyware attacking domestic PCs.
However, it is botnets such as the Storm worm which is the main infector of computers and many users become victims without being aware their computer protection has been breached, the news source continued.
Another threat to India's online community this year is phishing as the country is experiencing a "dramatic rise" in internet banking.
There is a "high level of ignorance towards phishing attacks by internet users and lack of security measures by banks", the Economic Times warned.
