Botnet builder sentenced
A hacker in the US has been sent to prison for 41 months after pleading guilty to installing malware on PCs through a major botnet security scam.
The US Department of Justice states that Robert Matthew Bentley, who resides in Florida, succeeded in infecting Newell Rubbermaid's corporate network with a botnet, PC Advisor reports.
According to the publication, Mr Bentley will also have to pay a fine of $65,000 (£33,000) after admitting computer fraud and conspiring to commit computer fraud.
His botnet was discovered following a global investigation and more people are still being investigated for helping the cybercriminal distribute his malware.
Recently, Californian Gregory C King admitted to deliberately unleashing malware against two volunteer websites, Register reported.
It noted that the 21-year-old will be sentenced later this year but could face up to 20 years in prison following his botnet attack against the websites, following decisions made by the operators which he considered unfair.
