Bosses warned of portable security risks
British bosses have been warned that the rise of portable storage devices being brought into the workplace poses serious security threats.
An article published by online resource TechWorld, written by an industry commentator known only as Marshal, stated that IT security can appear faddy to businesses managers as it may seem there is always a new crisis developing.
"There's always some 'crisis of the day', whether it's a new malicious computer virus, security vulnerability in Windows or spate of internal data leakages," the expert continued.
He argued that businesses must become more aware of the potential for employees to remove sensitive data from the company computers using devices as common as an MP3 player or USB flash drive.
Business Link, the British government's portal for providing firms with advice, states that security within IT has never been more important.
It comments that companies rely increasingly on their computers to conduct their business, meaning the security threats posed by viruses, hackers and even employees must be addressed.
