Blair Facebook hack highlights need for 'code auditing'
An internet security expert has spoken of the recent hacking into former British prime minster Tony Blair's Facebook page and said the attack underlines the need for new online security strategies.
The Daily Telegraph recently reported that the page set up for the Tony Blair Faith Foundation on the social networking site was hacked into and abusive messages towards the former premier posted.
According to Richard Kirk, the European director of security firm Fortify, this incident "highlights the need to include code auditing in the software development process".
He said that "anyone coding software that includes any element of internet interaction and not just web 2.0 environments needs to be aware of the risks and the fact that hackers are every bit as code-savvy as they are, if not more so".
Mr Kirk went on to state that advancements in web 2.0 have now "significantly" altered the security paradigm because while interactivity has increased, security has become an issue.
