Be safe online, internet users urged
Half of internet users in the UK who shop online say they are concerned about protecting their data on the web as a third (34 per cent) admit to receiving at least one phishing email every day, new data shows.
Some 81 per cent of users now bank online in the UK and despite the fact that nearly half (49 per cent) believe their services are "secure", PayPal is urging Brits to beat phishers by being safe.
According to Garreth Griffiths, head of Risk Management at PayPal UK, "forewarned is forearmed" and internet users should exploit all data available to avoid online threats.
"Phishers are using increasingly sophisticated ways to design phishing emails to lure people into thinking they have come from a trusted provider, such as their bank or credit card provider," he said.
"If anyone is ever in doubt about the authenticity of an email, and concerned it may be a phishing scam they should never click on the link in the email."
