Be cautious at all times when online, internet consumers urged
Internet users can prevent falling victims to online threats and other internet security pitfalls by adopting cautious online practices and never throwing caution to the wind, according to an expert.
This is especially vital when carrying out online transactions and internet users should adopt a suspicious attitude at all times just to keep themselves in check, according to an Equifax spokesperson.
"Prevention is better than curing it. It's basic things. Always make sure you look if you are on a secure site, with the http start to their address, look for the little padlock in the corner of the page, some basic hygiene stuff," he said.
"If you don't like the look of the site, or it looks a bit dodgy then don't go any further. Ring them up and confirm and double check."
ID theft and online fraud are a constant threat therefore it is advisable to ensure credit card statements and bank statements are checked at all times.
