'Be careful' when selecting anti-spyware software
There are both good and bad anti-spyware software packages to be found, according to a blog post.
DBA-Mentor advises caution when selecting a program, as some can cause more harm than good.
However, an effective anti-spyware solution can prove "the only defence" against such intrusions, the article adds.
The blog tells those who suffer data loss at the hands of spyware that they may in fact be lucky.
"More dangerous things" which can result from such infections include identity theft, according to the resource.
This could result in credit card statements indicating that a purchase has been made when the cardholder did not do so.
Such occurrences may take place a number of months before the cardholder becomes aware of them.
A recent Impcompfacts blog post recommended caution when accessing RSS feeds as some news reading software does not restrict scripts from running when articles are loaded on to the user's screen.
