Barclays announce online security giveaway
Barclays bank is to offer its two million online customers free security software, after the organisation joined forces with the online security specialist Kaspersky.
Online customers will now be able to download a two year version of Kaspersky's internet security software - which normally retails for £49.99 per year - from Barclays' web banking site.
The software, which will offer protection against viruses, spyware and adware, whilst also containing firewalls, parental controls and spam filters, aims to protect customers against internet fraud and online identity theft.
Barclays will allow customers to download the security software on up to three personal computers.
Sean Gilchrist, director of digital banking for Barclays, said: "Kaspersky has one of the best reputations in the business and together with 'PINsentry' we believe Barclays' online customers will have one of the best security packages of all online banks."
In research released in 2007 by America's Utica College it was discovered that the average cost of identity theft to the victims was $31,356 (£15, 728).
