Banks take steps to alert clients to online threats
All banks which offer online access and transaction facilities have been forced to take steps to make their clients more aware of the threat posed by fraud, it has been claimed.
Indian news resource the Rupee Times made its comments as the ICICI Bank issued its users with a stark warning about the dangers posed by phishing.
Phishing refers to attacks from cybercriminals in which they email their victim a fraudulent message, usually purporting to be from their bank or another organisation which should be allowed their personal information.
The messages often seek to fool the recipient into disclosing personal information such as their credit card details or clicking a link which downloads malware to their machine.
ICICI Bank's message told users to ensure their PC is protected by the latest anti-virus software and is safe from spyware threats.
The warning continued: "If you receive an email that appears to have been sent from ICICI Bank claiming to confirm, renew or validate your account details or card details, do not respond or enter any information in the website," the Rupee Times reported.
