ATM hacking talk pulled from Black Hat conference
An ATM vendor has succeeded in having a talk on how to hack into a cash machine by exploiting security holes in its software pulled from the Black Hat conference schedule.
Barnaby Jack, a researcher at Juniper Networks, was set to give the presentation in Las Vegas, which would have pointed out flaws in cash machine software that could be exploited by criminals.
However, at the start of this week, Juniper Networks released a statement saying that the talk was being cancelled due to a vendor's intervention.
While the firm claimed that the hacking issue was important enough to be presented at a public symposium, the "affected ATM vendor has expressed to us concern about publicly disclosing the research findings before its constituents were fully protected".
Last week, reports that cash machines in Russia and eastern Europe were being compromised by hackers started circulating the web.
According to Trustwave, malware was uncovered which could be used to harvest data from cash cards.
