Apple issues fixes for vulnerabilities
Internet security vulnerabilities in the Mac OS X system last week prompted Apple to issue a security update aimed at addressing the issues.
The update featured patches for more than 50 security vulnerabilities though the firm said it would not confirm any of the issues "until a full investigation has occurred and any necessary patches or releases are available".
Users of Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.5, Java for Mac and Safari for Windows who are the target of the online security fixes are advised to put in place the patches as soon as possible.
Reacting, Graham Cluley of Sophos said: "Companies like Apple and Microsoft do not announce security vulnerabilities for the fun of it - they issue advisories and patches in order to better protect their users from internet and hacker attacks."
He went on to say that one of the vulnerabilities addressed could be related to a bug in Apple's Safari web browser.
Cyber crooks could exploit the bug affecting Windows XP, Vista and Apple Mac users to compromise consumers' internet security by gaining access to any file in the hard drive, he said.
