Anti-virus software is important for avoiding downtime
Businesses should make uptime a priority when they are considering outsourcing their IT infrastructure, it has been claimed.
According to IT expert Subhomoy Biswas, mobile networking, internet access and email are all vitally important to modern businesses and downtime can therefore have a severe impact on productivity.
Mr Biswas claimed that protecting IT infrastructure against attacks from viruses, Trojans and other forms of malware by installing up-to-date anti-virus software is paramount to reducing the chances of IT networks being damaged.
"Any failure of the communications network could result in significant losses. For example, when employees and partners are unable to access e-mail or company systems, it can have a serious effect on productivity," he added.
He said that the complexity of modern networking systems means internet security has come to the fore.
Mr Biswas's call for an increased focus on internet security to reduce downtime has been echoed by the Institute for Public Policy Research, which recently claimed the government is not taking the issue seriously enough.
