Americans 'dislike entering card details online'
Although Americans believe shopping online is convenient and can save time, many fear the internet is not a secure way to pay for things using credit cards, a survey has revealed.
Research company Pew Internet has conducted a study into online shopping habits among people in the US and revealed three-quarters of web users do not like to hand out personal information such as card details through their computers.
"While the number of e-shoppers continues to grow, there is still widespread concern in the internet population about the safety of financial and personal data online," it noted.
The company discovered that if people felt safer about using the web to transmit such information, more people would choose to use their computers instead of the high street.
Research conducted in 2007 by Pew Internet discovered 47 per cent of all adults in the US have a high-speed internet connection, a 12 per cent increase on the previous year.
