Amazon warns of phishing scam
Online shoppers and Amazon users have been warned to watch out for a phishing email attack that can leave them exposed to online threats, it has emerged.
The online retailer has advised customers not to divulge their details online to any messages that appear to be from the organisation as it is not their policy to request for such information.
Speaking to PC Adviser, an Amazon spokesperson said this was because electronic mail did not provide security and expressed concern cyber crooks were exploiting the company's name.
"We are very concerned about the implications of this message and the misappropriated use of our name, and we are currently investigating this situation," said the spokesperson.
The company has urged internet users not to respond to unsolicited emails or click links contained in such messages or they risk downloading viruses to their computers.
CPP recently warned parents in the UK that their teenagers were exposing them to ID theft by illicitly shopping online on websites that may be insecure.
