A new Mac malware has been uncovered

A new piece of malware which attacks the MacOS X operating system has been uncovered.

The malicious code is known as Puper, and is a Trojan that disguises itself as a video programme called MacCinema.

According to McAfee Avert Labs, which uncovered the new piece of malicious software, the attack appears online as a downloadable disc image, which then launches an installer for the fictional software.

Once installed the user's computer is infected with a script file named AdobeFlash.

The script attempts to launch itself every five hours and tries to download and launch other malware.

McAfee claims that the new malware is similar to other common Trojans which are often disguised as video codecs or other plug-ins.

Last month, anti-virus software creator PC Tools uncovered a new malware attack which was being spread using fake Harry Potter downloads.

The malicious code was disguised as the last Harry Potter film, the Half-Blood Prince.
