58% of SMBs affected by malware
Malware affects 58 per cent of small businesses (SMBs) around the world, according to new research by an internet security expert.
According to Panda Security, more than half of SMBs have been threatened by malicious code, however, in some countries the situation is far worse.
The company claims that in Brazil 86 per cent of firms have come under attack, while 73 per cent in Greece have been affected by Trojans or viruses.
Meanwhile, 36 per cent of businesses suffered a loss in productivity as a result of a security breach and 15 per cent actually lost data.
Some 93 per cent of SMBs around the world have anti-virus software installed on their system, but just 63 per cent have spyware protection and only 52 per cent have an anti-spam solution installed.
According to research by UK payment association APACS, the number of phishing attacks is on the increase.
It detected 14,369 different types of phishing emails in the first-quarter of 2009 - up from 4,134 when compared with last year's figures.
