2009 will bring with it new threats
This year saw a number of internet security threats that came in all forms possible and 2009 is not going to be any different, an online security expert has said.
Social networking sites became one of the main targets of cyber crooks in 2008 with new methods of attack such as SQL injection and improved social engineering being deployed.
In an article published in Ecommerce Times, Ken Pappas, a security strategist specialising in intrusion prevention systems states that online threats that come up in 2009 will depend on end users.
"Several factors, including a severe recession, easier ways to commit cybercrime, and continued growth of social networking online, will create for a unique year of threats once again," he points out.
"Hackers will continue to study human behaviour, reactions to e-mail, web and other social media attractions, to determine these areas of vulnerabilities."
The message that has been given to all consumers throughout is ensuring proper online security measures such as regularly updated anti-virus software and good online practices are in place, to avoid being a victim.
