Windows XP includes a new feature that will automatically optimize the the disks on boot if required. This setting controls whether this feature is enabled.

Open your registry and find or create the key below.
Create a new String value, or modify the existing value, called "Enable" and set it according to the value data below.
Exit your registry; you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.
|(Default)||REG_SZ||(value not set)|
Value Name: Enable
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Value Data: (Y = enabled, N = disabled)
