Disk Defragmenter Options (Windows 95/98/Me)

These settings allow you to control the default options for the disk defragmenter (DEFRAG) utility.

Open your registry and find or create the key below.

To control the defragmentation method create a new sub-key called "method" and set "(Default)" to an item from the list below:

  • FULL - Defragment files, space and optimize programs.
  • FULLNOAPPLOG - Defragment files and space.
  • FILES - Defragment files only.
  • SPACE - Defragment space only.
To control whether scandisk is run before the defrag starts create a new sub-key called "scandisk" and set "(Default)" to equal TRUE or FALSE.

Restart the disk defragmenter for the change to take effect.
