Internet

The Internet is a decentralized network of computers and devices around the world. There are hundreds of millions of computers connected and thousands more connecting everyday, and due to size the exact numbers are impossible to calculate.

Decentralized in design means that there is no one company or country that can control the Internet. And due to the redundency nothing short of total disaster could ever shut it down.

The Internet as we know it today was orginally established in 1969 as ARPANET by the United States Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (ARPA). It was designed so that even an act of war would be unable to stop the flow of information between connected sites.
