Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) New
TCP/IP is an abbreviation of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol and defines a suite of protocols used by devices to communicate on a network.
TCP/IP is made up of two main protocols:
- Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) - is the high level protocol which establishes the connection between two devices on a network. TCP guarantees delivery of the data and also that the data will be received in the correct order.
- Internet Protocol (IP) - controls the format of the data packets and the addressing and delivery to each device.
TCP/IP is the protocol used by computers and other devices to communicate with one another on the Internet. All devices connected to the Internet must be able to communicate using TCP/IP.
