Press Release - PC Tools issues warning about trojan application exploiting London bombings

SYDNEY, July 12, 2005 - PC Tools, creator of award-winning spyware removal and real-time protection software, today issued a warning for PC users worldwide about a new Trojan virus application exploiting last week's terrorist bombings in London.

The Trojan, first discovered on July 8, is identified by Spyware Doctor as "Trojan.LondonBombing.A." It arrives as an email with the subject "TERROR HITS LONDON" and includes a ZIP attachment appearing to be news footage from the London bombings. Once the attachment, which includes a compressed file called ''London Terror Moovie.avi <124 spaces> Checked By Norton Antivirus.exe," is opened, it will attempt to turn the user's computer into a spam zombie that will send huge amounts of unsolicited spam email.

Spyware Doctor will identify the Trojan if it has infected a PC and allow the user to quarantine or remove the application so that it will not send out spam email messages.

"We want to ensure that PC users around the world are aware of this abhorrent threat and that their computers are protected so that they do not become victims of this heinous scam," said Simon Clausen, CEO of PC Tools. "It's absolutely detestable that these virus creators would use last week's tragic events in London as an avenue to spawn computer viruses such as this one."
