Default Smart Update fails - service not running

When I run Smart Update, it downloads the files fine, but gets an error during the install. The error message is "This update requires the "PC Tools Spyware Doctor" service which is currently disabled. Please ask the system administrator to enabe the service OR login as an Administrator to perform this update."

I'm already logged in as system administrator. I have version 4.0.0.2602.

Hey Jeffb,

Try restarting your PC to see if you are able to perform a Smart Update.

Hey jeffb,

It seems that you are not using the latest Spyware Doctor version. I think the latest version is version "4.0.0.2620" *not sure though*.

try to do the upgrade, and if the problem still persists. Try to run Smart Update on Safe mode with Networking.

I finally got it to update. I rebooted once and still had the problem. So I ran scandisk on both drives and checked the box to repair bad sectors, rebooted and it worked. I've been having problems with my laptop hanging for the last week, now it works great! Thanks guys for your help!
