Symantec to Acquire PC Tools

Read the Press Release

So this will happen by the end of the year. Is there any specific info regarding TF's future? Honestly I really dont care for what Symantec does with/to aquired applications. Corel is even worse in this regard.

But seriously, what can we expect in Threatfire's future?

This just looks like the two companies are teaming up, but it doesn't seem like PC Tools will be affected all that much. It seems that the two companies will operate separately which is a good thing since Symantec puts out garbage products, and PC Tools puts out excellent products.

Hi All,

We are excited by the opportunity and it’s good to see so much interest in this forum about our products and this announcement. To clarify a few things:

- PC Tools will continue to be operated as a separate unit in the Symantec consumer group, led by our CEO Simon Clausen.
- We will retain the PC Tools brand and continue to offer our full catalog of PC Tools products as they are today, including the free products.
- All the teams working on PC Tools products will continue working on those products.
- We plan to be able to release more products to a wider audience with the support provided by Symantec.
- We may possibly share some technology down the road but there are currently no fixed plans and the PC Tools products will remain separate technology.

We just signed the initial agreement, so as we get closer to finalizing the deal more details on the product roadmap will be shared as they become available.

As long as Symantec doesn't start throwing incompetent idiots into PC Tools' staff...

I started using PC Tools because Symantec's stuff was so indescribably awful. I hope the low quality of Symantec's products doesn't infect PC Tools.

Symantec practically wrote the book on memory-eating bloatware.

Woe is me.

Anthony: Thanks for the info, much appreciated! I hope your last point holds true in the future. Its what I worry about the most. But I'll try to be hopeful and positive that this is a positive move. Thanks again for the info.

Hwaet: Agree on all points. If Symantec at some point wants to change TF to fit the rest of thier product line... Well the thought scares me.

AChen, based on Symantec's track record your future is not all that bright even if they allowed you guys to stay as you are. They just consume and destroy other companies. Like parasitic aliens in typical hollywood movie...
When they cosnume the tech and they don't find it useful anymore they just move on to the next company. PCTools is not the first one and i'm very sure it's not the last one either...

Thanks for this info.. I see Symantec software deals in the past what happens to companies they acquire. Let's see what happens by 2011?

I love PC Tools product.. I'm sure that Symantec will dismantled PC Tools piece by piece;or will infect your good product!!

For me, this is the end of PC Tools...

Another one bites the dust. So, time for everyone to wave goodbye to PC Tools AV/Firewall and ThreatFire... Been a nice ride, now damaged by the yellow parasite who's already managed to kill numerous high quality products (Backup Exec, CleanSweep, Ghost, Partition Magic, Sygate Firewall, WinFax...)

Maybe you should read before posting; PC Tools will still stand as they do now, providing their own products as a separate company. The acquirement by Symantec will only mean that they can use technology from PC Tools to make their own products stronger, while PC Tools themselves will get money to further evolve their software.
