application error

I am using version 5.0.1.205 with Windows XP Pro
. Today when I booted up my PC I received the below message.
"SDTrayapp.exe - application error.
The instruction at 0x51f2242c referenced memory at 0x0150c64c. The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate program."

When I click OK another Window opens that says "runtime error 216 at
51f2242c"

When I click OK on this one I am taken back to the first message.

I was able to get away from this by shutting down Spyware Doctor in the systray and then using Windows Task Manager to end task for the above 2 messages.
But now I'm running without real time protection.
This problem only started occurring today.
If I restart Spyware Doctor from the programs list it seems to run fine. I played around a little by restating the computer several times and everytime I had to go through the above process.
I also uninstalled SD and then ran Registry Mechanic and then downloaded and reinstalled SD. I should have known something was afoul when I didn't have to reactivate SD. The uninstall or Registry Mechanic apparently didn't completely clean out traces of SD.
Help. I can't/won't use this program under these conditions.

It might be caused by several things.
I would first start in 'safe mode' and then run an ALTERATIVE scanner, then if nothing found -close and run SD FULL scan. It might be caused by an infectin and if SD is infected You might get problems.
It might be a memmory issue, and as You did not state Your set-up I can't comment further on that. However not that SDV5 demands a HUGE ammount of RAM at start up, and if anything else is doing the same, You might be in trouble too. Sometimes it seems to be needed to start SD after all other apps have started and checked for uppdates. Try to minimize number of programms at start up and see if that solves/reduces the problem.

I have 2GB of RAM so I don't think that's an issue. Besides, the program was running fine until today. After I downloaded and reinstalled SD I did do a scan and got a clean bill of health. And also scanned with NIS 2007.

Are You running NIS at the same time? It might be a conflict issue. I hate to suggest it, but have You tried running SD in Kernel mode?

Hello,
uninstall sd and delete all older references
install the most recent version
now,try Reodor's suggestion,use the kernel compatibility and try temporaly disable NIS in order to see if its solve the problem
