Here We Go Again....5.0.5.250..
Recently ran a full scan with 5.0.5.250 and it came up with:
Srvany.exe and Instsrv.exe as rogue ant-spyware and dangerous. They are BOTH part of Microsoft Windows XP Resource Kit! My beautiful Hawai'ian Seascape picture as my desktop background, a .jpg file, as another dangerous spyware and the same for my Lake Scenes screensaver. All BS! Version 4 was notorious for False Positives...looks like version 5.x carries on the tradition!
I wrote PCTools Tech about this and received a form letter back asking me to to send a screen shot of the problem I'm having with...........Registry Mechanic???!!! ##**
Great going PcTools!
Think I'll revert back to the anti-spyware program in Zone Alarm Pro and using Ad-Aware as well. Too much hassle with Spyware Doctor.

Version 5.0.5.250 hasn't even been released yet Where did you get it from??
Most security programs will detect FP's every now and again. The additional info will help PC Tools sort this out. I guess the filename is not enough info. You could possibly PM the moderators your ticket number to follow this up.

Hmmmmm.....
I'm still running 5.05.258, but then I did not un-install it. and according to latest uppdate 'flag' on hour ago: I'm ( My system) fully updated!
I would guess that 250 must have been passed on the way, is a 'Giggle Pack' variant or just a plain miss-typing? If Not mistaken the verion before 258 was 252? But who knows in this world of total confusion, unless it is one of the 'Pirate Bay' releases? This world of SD is full of surprizes and nothing would surprize me unless I get a message that all problems are solved, and SDV5 runs like a lightening on 128RAM with 10Mb of VM!!!!

although it might not seem obvious but screen savers ofter contain malware (and you would be supprised what can be stuffed into jpeg's) so that's why they're scanned
the FP's in v4 mainly came from the keylogger guard which was ment to detect ANY programs do any keystroke monitoring (eg. hotkey's set it of)
this may be annoying at times but it's really the best way to detect keyloggers
don't get rid of a program just because of a few FP's, better a FP than a FN

Wow, that was clever. I thought of hanging on to 258, too, but I was afraid the order to uninstall was so unequivocal. Anyway, I think the current version is still 205 - that's what I've got. Am I missing out on something?
PS I'm not sitting on my balcony, Reodor....

The main reason I did not revert was I feel like being on this board is somwhat like cheating the devil, we get at least some info which are kept a secret for the majority of users.
What about all the 'millions' of people cueing up to download SDV5 every day, I'm sure some must have gotten the 258 version not knowing the dangers involved. So here I am, ready to get some problems on the board concerning that specific version. Not on my balcony overlooking the tropical islands, but have moved down and got my office just 5m off the pool!!!!!
So what is the current 'official' version I have no idea, I'm not sure that anyone knows anymore. If I am up-dated or downgraded? It might probably sort itself out within the next decade (shortly?) when another un-install and re-install is announced. Then we all meet at Wateloo again, hoping that Mr Green and PC Tools have switched from the Napolean camp to the Wellington camp unless we are still left in the mud inbetween.

the official version is .205
i presume that the resion of the recall is not to do with the proformance of the release, probable something to do with "company prosidures" (eg. did they forget to test it or something?, or is it leaking data or anything like that)
if anyone knows the reson for the recall i would be very interested to know what it is

My IE 7 was not happy before and it for sure did not get better after the install, but I mainly use Firefox on that comp. IE7 Just shuts down from time to time.
One change in the log: It says 'sceduled service' : looking for up-date, but never says if successful.
Still no cookie-cleaning in Firefox.
It might be more, but I do not run any of the add-ons which I heard did not get to happy either, but that I'm not able to check.
