Please Read this
I found out today that spyware doctor renewed itself without my consent and took my money. I really do not want this program because all its done so far is crash/slow my computer. Can someone tell me why it renewed itself and took my money all by itself without any consent from me? I find this highly unfair. Can anyone tell me how to stop this?

It is quite amazing that this keeps on popping up at the forum. Time to re-post my letter to Element 5 and theur answer.
If PC Tools can not follow the 'rules' I really hope someone in the situation takes a leagal punch at them soon!!!!!!

From what I can see, you can also cancel the auto renewal process here http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48180. If you need a refund, probably best to PM AChen or Support or send in a ticket to PC Tools Support

i think autorenew would be better replaced by a simple YES NO popup (with the cost ect. on) which appears when your licence is up

yes i had the same problem with auto renew with registry mechanic, get an email telling me to update subscription & next minute I get another email, thank you for your order. Never had this problem on any other year.
Even when swd came up for renewal a few months ago this didn't happen.
I have a few auto renewals with other companies one being microsoft & they advise you that your subscription will expire on a certain date & ask you to validate your card details to make sure your details are current.
I had to set up an account with pc tools to change it back to manual renewal. They responded very quickly & asked me if I wanted a refund of which I advised them no but voiced my opinion to them.
This situation could cause a few problems as based on their email, I could of just processed a payment & at the same time they could have charged my card. I actually consider it to be fraud to charge someone's card before they are notified.

After reading the above I checked my renewal options for my recently purchased Desktop Mechanic, and sure enough I found that the auto-renewal had been activated for this. I certainly do not recall opting for this when I made the initial purchase, or even being warned about it during purchase, though I guess I could have missed it.
Needless to say I have turned it off; I do not like the thought of a company just taking money out of my account without my prior knowledge or consent.

I don't remember actually being ASKED for autorenew. I had no knowledge of being asked for renewal AT ALL. And if I missed it because of a clever location for cancelling renewal that nobody would actually check for. My apologies :P
