Doctor makes Windows crash
I've been running fine with Spyware Doctor v4 for many months now. Lately my system is crashing regularly (when I forget to turn off SD) and upon reboot Windows tells me:
Problem caused by Spyware Doctor
This problem was caused by Spyware Doctor. This program was created by PC Tools. PC Tools does not currently have a solution for the problem that you reported.
Recommendation
For support information or product updates, contact PC Tools.
What gives? Is there a fix in the works, and if so, how much is it going to cost me?

Hi Georgeh,
In order for us to investigate this further, could you please provide a screenshot of the error message? When does the error message occur? Are you using XP or Vista? What other security apps do you have installed?

That WAS the screenshot of the error message. I get the message after the system has rebooted. I'm using XP and Norton Internet Security. Since it had run fine for a long time to start, I suspect this may be related to a Windows update that has been applied (for most of us at least) since then.

George, to help resolve this, please try the following -
Restart the Computer in Safe Mode:
1. Click on the Start button. The Start menu will appear.
2. Select ''Shut Down'' from the menu (''Turn off Computer'' in XP).
The 'Shut Down Windows' dialog box will appear.
3. Select ''Shut down'' (or, ''Turn Off'' in XP) and click the Yes (or OK) button.
4. When the computer starts back up, begin immediately by pressing the F8 key repeatedly until the Windows Startup menu appears with various options.
5. By using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard, select 'Safe Mode'.
Do not select 'Safe Mode with networking' or any other modes.
6. Login to your account (if asked).
7. Wait and eventually Windows will start in Safe Mode.
8. Delete the file 'ikhlayer.sys' and 'ikhfile.sys' from c:\windows\system32\drivers\
9. Restart your computer

OK, files deleted. So far so good (it hasn't been very long yet). I noticed the files I deleted were not recreated after reboot.
I see v5 is available now. Wouldn't that be the next logical step?

Hi
Be advised that version5 is not trouble free! If you are happy with version 4.x stick with it. If you arent already using it, I suggest updating to version 4.1.
Hope that helps

V5 is LITTERED with BUGS and may likely result in failure to BOOT after install
Long running unfixed issues from at least last March 2007 to today 17 Aug 2007... V5 after install causes many pcs to simply refuse to bootup even to the point of the std windows xp file system check and simply HANG the pc with a blank display.
STAY AWAY from the incompetant and BUG-LITTERED v5 release!
Maybe check it in 6 months and if they havn't fixed it by then, FIND ANOTHER VENDOR and kiss these clowns goodbye

Why didn't you make any posts about this problem back in March?
Since I've been on these forums, haven't really seen much on this issue since the really early days and even then this problem was quite rare?
Like Reodor said in the previous thread, we'll need more substance? Maybe you've got another app on there that doesn't like SD? Without the info, we can't help you.
I find it very hard to believe that this happened on several machines... maybe theres something in common thats causing this.
Cheers,
Chippa

The problem I originally reported (the first message in this thread) is still crashing my system with the same error message.
Where do I get 4.1, and is it another purchase? When I click on DOWNLOAD here it takes me straight to v5. Is v5 fixed yet?
