Default SD 4 and Notifier

Ok, I will admit I was fooled again by SmartUpdate and downloaded the notifier. How do I remove it?

Also, it notified me that my subscription will expire tomorrow but SD shows 217 days till expiration.

BTW, I am running 4.0.0.2621 on XP Pro SP2

I refuse to run 5.0 until it is fixed. I tried the early upgrades and I am not about to try again until I see no more messages on this forum about issues and problems with SD5. I hope this will be soon because I like SD 4 . OTOH , SD5 is a totally different issue.

I know PCTools is trying very hard but I am not about to try another uninstall/reinstall again.

I believe the notifier has been removed. It appears for those users who had SDv4.0 installed. You should receive this notifier anymore. If you do then you'll need to PM one of the moderators. Im not really sure, what version the notifier told you to install, because I dont have version 4.0 installed. But version 4.1, is alot better then the 4.0 as it starts up much faster with some enhanced onguard protection.

The notifier remained even after it was supposedly removed and then the subscripton expiration notice started appearing (i have 3 months left). I bit the bullet removed 4.0 from the laptop and updated to the current 5 version on the laptop where I'll watch it for a while before doing same on my desktops.

Had not choice, as the popups from spyware doc required a remove and reinstallation anyway.

So far laptop seems fine, but I don't use it extensively unlike the desktop

What do people do who aren't comfortable with software?

I guess you have 2 choices
Try version 4.1 which certainly starts up more quickly than 4.0 but I only used it briefly myself.
or
Try out other antispyware programmes until you find one with which you are comfortable.

i recommend you try 4.1 and if it doesn't work get 4.0 again from my old version archive

what build of 4.0 do you have because the one in my archive might be newer

I have moved off the notifier.dll file to a subdirectory and that has fixed the subscription notice popping up with bad info. And additionally, I no longer get nagged.
