The kernel compatibilty mode is there to enable integration with other security products like antivirus. It does not enhance security if it is on/off

Does it affect performance? Is it buggy?

I'm not being mallicious. The reason I ask the above is because, if it has no adverse performance impact and, as has already been said, it has no effect on the level of security provided, then why wouldn't Spyware Doctor always run in kernel compatibilty mode? The only reason I can think of is that PCtools are worried that it isn't 100% stable in all situations.

If it is safe 99.999% of the time and has no performance impact then it would seem to be a meaningless and confusing option to present to the user and I'm sure that a registry setting or some hidden config file could provide the ability for PC Tools support to turn it off to try and diagnose an individual user's problems in the 1 in 100,000 cases where it might be an issue.

Maybe it is a performance thing?

I see your point. I think, however,that this is only really useful for certain antivirus products that some users are using. Im not sure.
